There are a number of people that have to supply their bodies with a steady dose of insulin on a regular basis in order to make sure that the glucose levels are stable. People that have Type 1 diabetes utilize insulin kits in order to effectively manage their diabetes. Insulin kits can be purchased via a number of pharmacuetical stores with a valid prescription. These kits contain everything that a diabetic individual will need in order to effectively manage their diabetes. Insulin kits are basically used by those that decide to use syringes in order to administer their insulin. It is important for people to be well aware of what an insulin kit should obtain in order to be properly prepared for insulin therapy. The following is an overview of the main items that are often included in insulin kits.

1. Insulin-When many people purchase insulin they may oftentimes want to purchase enough insulin so that they will have a supply that last them for some time. Many people are looking for insulin kits that will supply an adequate insulin supply over a certain amount of time. Most kits include a couple of vials of insulin. Individuals can determine how much insulin they need for each dosage and administer that amount accordingly. It is extremely important that insulin be properly stored. Vials of insulin that have not been used should be stored in the refrigerator. It is very important that the insulin in kept a temperature that will keep the insulin cold but not freezing. A vial of insulin that is currently in use should can be stored at room temperature in order to prevent painful injections for up to one month.

2. Syringes-Many prefabircated insulin kits will include syringes. The use of syringes in order to administer insulin is the traditional method. There are different types of syringes that can be used for administering insulin. Those that are unsure about which needle diameter should be used should consult with their physician. Likewise, it is very important that people maintain their syringes in the proper manner. Most people decide to buy a steady supply of syringes in order to have clean syringes readily avialable. However, there are a number of individuals that choose to reuse their syringes in order to save money. Anyone deciding to reuse syringes for insulin use should make sure that the cap remains over the needle when it is not in use. Likewise, the needles should be cleaned with alcohol if they are being reused. Under no circumstances should syringes be shared with others.

3. Skin Prep Items-Those that administer insulin on a regular basis will need to make sure that their insulin kits are stocked with skin prep items. The skin prep items that are most often used include alcohol prep pads that can be purchased from local retail stores. Individuals may also want to include cotton balls and bandages in their kits in order too dress the site of insertion.

These are the main contents of insulin kits that many diabetics use on a daily basis.

It was later discovered their is a link between diabetes and Zyprexa, and this link is apparent with other anti psychotic drugs.

Everyone is aware that when taking any medication specifically prescription medications, it is very important to be wary of the various side effects. So many of the medications that are consumed have a number of side effects that can range from the very minor to major. Thus, it is always important for people to be very proactive when taking any type of medication in order to ensure that people are aware of what may happen when using prescription medication. With this being the case, individuals also expect for companies to be very upfront and honest about how a medication will affect individuals. In some countries, such as the United States, certain medications cannot be sold unless they pass Food and Drug Administration guidelines. These guidelines are often supported by supplying detailed information about the particular medication, research information and clinical trials. However, despite these protocols being necessary it was possible for the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly & Company to promote the anti psychotic drug Zyprexa. It was later discovered their is a link between diabetes and Zyprexa, and this link is apparent with other anti psychotic drugs.

There are a couple of reasons why it is believed that there is a very obvious link between diabetes and zyprexa. Zyprexa, like a number of anti psychotic drugs, can cause significant weight gain. It is believed that the increase in weight gain in individuals taking this medication may have caused many to develop diabetes. Furthermore, there have been many cases where people have developed diabetes after beginning taking this medication. In fact Duke University conducted a study which determined that out of 289 cases of diabetes that were linked to Zyprexa 225 of the cases were for people that were newly diagnosed with the disease and many of these cases of diabetes begin within a six month time period from when the individuals begin taking the medication. Likewise, many people that took Zyprexa also experienced weight gain which is known to complicate diabetes.

What is truly disturbing about the link between diabetes and Zyprexa is the fact that appears that Eli Lilly & Company was very knowledgeable about the fact that this particular drug could cause significant health issues for those that were prescribed this medication to assist with psychiatric disorders. Zyprexa was Eli Lilly & Company’s most profitable drug, and many people believe that this pharmaceutical company choose not to address the serious complications because they were too interested in making large sums of money. Eli Lilly & Company eventually had to pay over a billion dollars to individuals that suffered great side effects from taking Zyprexa. Many of these individuals developed diabetes a condition that will have to be managed for the rest of their lives all because of taking this particular medication.

It is very obvious that there is a very unfortunate link between diabetes and Zyprexa. Many people have become very ill and some have even lost their lives as a result of taking this medication to treat a psychiatric disorder. It has been determined by the Food and Drug Administration that there are a number of anti psychotic drugs, including Zyprexa, that can cause diabetes. Individuals that are being treated for mental health disorders should consult with their physicians to obtain more information on safe medications that they can use.

There are a number of supplies that diabetics will need to obtain in order to be able to effectively manage this medical condition. Those individuals that have Type 1 diabetes are in a position where it will be necessary for them to commit to managing their insulin levels manually. Since people with this type of diabetes are not able to produce insulin in the correct manner they have to administer their insulin via pumps. Because of this, it is very important that people have the necessary diabetic supplies and insulin supplies that they need in order to effectively manage their diabetes. There are numerous companies that sell insulin supplies at very competitive prices. Getting the insulin supplies that are needed should not be an issue for anyone that is dealing with diabetes. It is very important that those with diabetes understand what they will need to do in order to obtain the insulin supplies that are so vitally needed in order to take control of diabetes.

There are a variety of different insulin supplies that can be purchased for those that need to manage their diabetes by supplying their bodies with doses of insulin on a regular basis. It is highly recommended that individuals throughly consider a number of different products for insulin needs in order to obtain the instruments that will be most effective for daily use. Most people that want to avoid giving themselves shots of insulin throughout the day utilize insulin pumps. These pumps provide a steady dosage of insulin to the body throughout the day. Many diabetics find that they are very convenient. Insulin pumps typically replace the use of syringes for administering insulin.

Insulin pump accessories are also readily avialable to make the use of the insulin pump a bit more convenient. Many of these insulin supplies are interchangeable with the pump to provide the user with the best options for operating their insulin pump. Some accessories that people may be interested in purchasing for their insulin pumps include a glucose sensor which helps to detect the amount of sugar in a person’s blood. Insertion devices are also available which allow an individual to place the insulin into the pump easily and pain-free.

In addition to the insulin pumps there are the various accessories that can be utilized with the pump. One of the most important insulin supplies is the infusion set. A steady supply of infusion sets will be needed in order for individuals with diabetes to be able to operate their insulin pumps. The infusion set is basically the tube system that connects the insulin pump to the individual’s body. Because the infusion set is responsible for delivering the insulin to the body it does have to be replaced on a regular basis in order to ensure that the insulin is being properly administered in the correct dosage. As the infusion set is utilized on a daily basis the absorption rate changes significantly. Because of this, it will be necessary for individuals to take make sure that they have enough of these particular types of insulin supplies on hand.

When considering the different items that will be needed in order to treat ones diabetes there are certain supplies that must be considered. These particular supplies can be purchased onlin via any one of the many medical supplies stores that operate via the internet. The following are some of the main insulin pump supplies that will be needed in order to effectively manage insulin intake on a regular basis.

1. Infusion Set-Anyone that wants to be able to adminsiter insulin in the proper manner cannot do without this particular item. An infusion set is basically the core of the insulin pump supplies. This a set that helps individuals with diabetes to obtain the necessary level of insulin throughout the day. The infusion makes it posssible for a person to not have to perform shots throughout the day in order to maintain insulin levels. The infusion set includes various pieces such as an adhesive mount, subcutaneous cannula, quick-disconnect and pump cartridge connector. There are a number of different types of infusion sets on the market. Individuals should take the time to persuse the different sets and effectively choose the one that will be best for them best on personal needs and body structure.

2. Cartridges and Reserviors-It will be necessary for an individual to replace their insulin pump supplies every 2-3 days. When purchasing insulin pump supplies some individuals prefer to purchase extra accesories such as an additional reservior or insertion device that can be interchanged as needed. Likewise, since individuals will be inserting a needle into their skin on a regular basis it will be necessary to purchase skin prep items. It very important that people that are using these supplies take the time to properly care for their skin. Whenever an insulin pump is connected to the skin it

Diabetes mellitus, is derived from the Greek term diabainein, which means “to pass through” and “mellitus” a Latin word that literally means “sweetened with honey”.

Diabetes mellitus is a disease described as either the inability of the body to produce or respond to insulin making it impossible for a person to maintain the proper levels of glucose in the blood. This results into a person having higher levels of glucose in the urine which results into more water from the body being flushed through. Common symptoms of diabetes patients include excessive urination and thirst.

There are two types of Diabetes, Type 1 is insulin-dependent and Type 2 is non-insulin dependent.

Type 1 (formerly known juvenile-onset diabetes, because it is diagnosed in young adults or children) diabetes is a genetic disease. When a person has type 1 diabetes, this means that their bodies produce antibodies that destroy insulin producing cells. Type 1 patients require insulin injections daily because of the disease. Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong disease which doctors have yet to find a cure for.

Type 2 (formerly known as adult-onset diabetes, as it exhibits its symptoms to adults over 40) is the most common form of diabetes. In fact 90% of all diabetes patients suffer from type 2 diabetes. Although genes play some part in causing Type 2 diabetes, obesity and improper diet and lifestyles are the major causes of the disease. Most people who suffer from this disease have diets that are both high in fat and low in carbs. They also have low or no exercise regimen.

There is a third type of diabetes, it is a derivative of Type 2 diabetes as it only affects a specific group of adults. Gestational Diabetes is diagnosed in women who have high blood-sugar levels during pregnancy. A pregnant woman’s sugar levels should be monitored carefully as they can largely affect the baby. Women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes at a later stage are likely to develop Type 2 diabetes. Some symptoms include frequent urination, excessive hunger and thirst, unusual weight loss, increased fatigue, irritability and blurry vision.

If you or your loved one is experiencing any of these symptoms, consult your physician immediately.

What are the benefits of using aloe vera if you are a diabetic? Should you believe the claims? This article examines the facts relating to diabetes and aloe vera.

Everyday, the number of people diagnosed with diabetes is increasing. This is why more and more people are looking for ways to prevent and hopefully cure their diabetes. This situation has prompted the people from the Mahidol University of Bangkok to conduct a study on the health benefits of aloe vera and how it prevents diabetes. This test was done in 1996 and was published that same year in the journal of Phyto medicine. As a test group, they chose 72 patients with high fasting blood sugar. They selected candidate that were exhibiting diabetic symptoms who had never been treated with hypo-glycemic drugs. The scientists used a placebo controlled double blind study to examine the effects of Aloe Vera on the blood sugar levels, as well as cholesterol levels and triglycerides.

For 42 days, the test group were given 15 milliliters of Aloe Vera to be taken twice a day while the other control group were given placebos. Neither of the groups knew which they were taking. Every two weeks, during this period, both groups were subjected to blood tests to measure their glucose levels, cholesterol levels and triglycerides. Prior tests performed before the study showed that their were no differences in their blood markers.

After the treatment with Aloe Vera the treatment group’s blood sugar levels decreased dramatically by 43%. They also reported that there were no changes in the cholesterol but blood triglyceride levels were reduced by 44%. There was no change in the placebo group. The study also reported that there were no significant side effects in the consumption of Aloe Vera; it also didn’t affect the treatment group’s weight or appetites.

Another study, conducted at the same university, showed that patients who were not responding to glibenclamide, an anti diabetic drug, responded well to Aloe Vera treatment. The results showed that the Aloe Vera treatment lowered their sugar level by 48% and triglycerides levels by 52%. Similarly, the aloe vera treatment did not affect the patients’ cholesterol levels.

Evidently, Aloe Vera treatment is a very effective way to lower blood sugar levels in adults; this option is one you may want to consider pursuing after you first consult with your current healthcare professional.

Understanding diabetic peripheral neuropathy. What is it? What causes it? What are the treatment options currently available.

Any abnormality in the nervous system is considered a Neuropathy. Its symptoms include, burning, tingling, numbness, hot and cold sensations. There are many types of neuropathy that affects people, but for our purposes we shall focus on peripheral neuropathy which is the most common type of neuropathy that affects diabetics.

The Diabetic peripheral neuropathy basically begins from the tips of the toes and gradually works its way up the legs. In severe cases, peripheral neuropathy affects the patient’s hands as well. At least 60% of diabetes patients experience some type of neuropathy in their feet. 5% of them are experiencing the painful diabetic neuropathy. In many cases, the pain experienced by the patient wi;; increase as they age; and 45% of diabetes patients who have been living with the disease for at least 25 years will experience some symptoms of painful diabetic neuropathy.

Based on the sheer number of people experiencing painful diabetic neuropathy, it would be safe to assume that there is a lot of information available regarding this complication. However, this is not the case. Even if there is a lot of scientific research under way related to this complication, the cause of diabetic neuropathy is still very unclear. Some researches claim that it is caused by the blood vessel damage, while others believe that the blood sugar causes damage to the nerves. In fact, there are many theories about diabetic neuropathy but at sadly none of them are confirmed.

Having no knowledge on the causes of diabetic neuropathy, there is simply no way to create treatments to reverse or stop the effects at the time of writing. Hopefully continued research and development into the condition will uncover better treatment options. Currently the only way patients cope with this is through pain medication. Most physicians prescribe pain medications to regulate the pain caused by neuropathy. .

Some good examples of these pain medications include amitriptyline, desipramine and nortriptyline. These pain medications induce sleep and decrease the pain. Gabapentin is another well known medication for diabetic neuroapthy. It is also known as Neurontin; it was once used solely for seizures, but since the benefits have been proven it is also a good medication that treats neuropathy.

What is Diabetic Frozen Shoulder and How Is It Treated

A major problem for sufferers of diabetes is a Diabetic frozen shoulder, this is a commonly diagnosed problem and should be investigated if symptons are suspected. The pain and limited function that are caused by it can seriously impact the normal activities of day-to-day life of the diabetic. Diabetes can affect the muscles and joints in many ways. In the cells sugar sticks to the collagen and affects its ability to function. Diabetes can damage blood vessels that may result in poor blood supply and circulation. Due to the decreased supply of blood, the body’s elastic tissues can be damaged.

Taking a closer look at a diabetic frozen shoulder, you’ll likely find that the diabetic patients have calcium spots in the tendons and muscle around the shoulder – again this probably relates to the fact that high blood sugars can impair blood flow through small vessels. Tendons are particularly vulnerable to this calcium build-up. Due to these calcium deposits severe discomfort or limited movement is often caused but sometimes it can be painless. These calcium spots can usually be seen on x-rays.

Another thing common in Frozen Shoulder among diabetic patients is slow healing and impaired nerve function that contributes to the fact that the frozen shoulder pain takes longer to settle than it does in other, non diabetic patients. Frozen shoulder is not seen as often in the general population compared to diabetic patients.

Normal diabetics are less likely to have frozen shoulder problems, however, insulin dependant diabetics are particularly at risk – in fact they are six times more likely to develop diabetic frozen shoulder than the rest of the population. In the recent years there has been a lot of research into the frozen shoulder – diabetes link but it the causes and treatments are still rather unclear and further research is urgently needed in order to help people with this condition.

Diabetic frozen shoulder eventually resolves itself in most cases but major problems can be caused by not following the doctors’ instructions and or prescribed medicine.

If you have more pounds, or you are stressed unknowingly you might be taking a step every day towards diabetes. Diabetes and the weight issues go together. Read further to evaluate yourself, are you also in danger?

Generally it was believed that diabetes is an inherited disease. If somebody spends his childhood without it he is OK.
